President’s Awards: Laz Ayala

By EJ McManus, DMA Board President

This year, we recognize Laz Ayala—a leader, innovator, and advocate whose commitment to Downtown Medford and the Rogue Valley runs deep.

As a property and business owner, Laz has been a long-term supporter of our community, investing in its growth and transformation. His successful urban housing development, delivering over 60 apartment units in Downtown Medford, exemplifies the kind of forward-thinking initiatives that breathe new life into our urban core. Laz’s contributions don’t stop there—his support for public arts programs, including the commissioning of several murals, has added vibrancy to our streets and celebrates the unique spirit of Medford. Laz has also been a vocal champion of economic progress. His advocacy was instrumental in kickstarting the feasibility of the Economic Improvement District (EID), an initiative now well on its way to becoming a reality.

Beyond downtown, Laz’s impact spans the Rogue Valley, with contributions that have benefited communities in Ashland, Jacksonville, and beyond. Whether through housing projects, arts advocacy, or championing collaborative efforts, Laz has consistently demonstrated what it means to lead with purpose and vision.

On behalf of the DMA, we express our deepest gratitude and congratulations to Laz Ayala for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to making our community stronger.

Please join me in celebrating this year’s DMA President’s Award recipient, Laz Ayala.
