Like Barbecue? Mac-n-Cheese? Ever tried West African food?

The Downtown Dining Divas (Lindsay Berryman and Phyllis Nelson) are back to tell you about the great Barbecue restaurant in the University Club (right next to the Holly Theatre). It’s called Sid’s Smoke & Grill, and the CEO and chef is Sidiki (Sid) Cisse.
You don’t need a knife to enjoy Sid’s smoked brisket. It’s thinly sliced, fork-tender, and 100% delicious.
You can get brisket and other meats such as smoked pork belly, smoked ribs, smoked chicken, jerk chicken, and meatballs as “just the meat,” or in a sandwich or with Sid’s sinfully wonderful Mac-n-Cheese.
The Mac-n-Cheese is smothered in bechamel cheese sauce and topped with breadcrumbs, and, of course, is calorie-free. The Mac-n-Cheese is really THAT GOOD! Phyllis had to ask Sid to add a little more to her take-home box, and Lindsay had to call in an order the next day to take to the beach. “Secretly, I love Mac-n-Cheese, and Sid’s is the best I have ever tasted. I am a fan of Sid’s cooking forever,” said Lindsay.

Sid is originally from Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa, but grew up in New York. His menu features several West African dishes. Lindsay ordered Chicken Mafe, which is smoked chicken bites prepared in West African peanut sauce and served over jasmine rice. “Having visited Kenya and surrounding with the McKena Children’s Foundation and also experiencing food in Western Africa, I was excited to find a couple of items that reminded me of wonderful travels without leaving Medford!! WOW and YUM!
Phyllis said, “I plan to order Chicken Mafe next time. The dish was beautifully presented, and the spices were exquisite.”
Sid has applied for a liquor license and will soon have beer, wine, and cocktails. In the meantime, guests can enjoy the usual soft drinks and also Hibiscus drinks, and Mauby (a traditional Caribbean drink made with mauby bark, lemon, and spices).
