Frustrated with unsightly urban blight? Help from the City of Medford is here.

The City of Medford has launched the Ordinance Compliance Program, a proactive initiative designed to transform blighted and neglected properties into safe, usable spaces—strengthening neighborhoods, boosting the local economy, and improving community well-being.
“This program is about partnership and progress. By working with property owners to achieve voluntary compliance, we can turn neglected spaces into homes and businesses that enhance safety, support local jobs, and strengthen neighborhood pride,” said Rob Field, City Manager.
Program Objectives
- Enhance public safety by addressing vacant and unsafe buildings
- Revitalize neighborhoods by improving deteriorating structures
- Increase property values and reduce crime by reducing neglect
- Support economic development by turning idle spaces into homes or businesses
- Improve community aesthetics and livability
How It Works
The program utilizes existing city codes, with an initial focus on the Medford Urban Renewal District and expansion to severely distressed properties citywide. Property assessments are underway, with staff reviewing unsafe structures, buildings unfit for occupancy, and signs of exterior deterioration.
Property owners found out of compliance will first receive a letter inviting them to work with the City on a compliance plan. The emphasis is on collaboration and voluntary solutions.
Looking Ahead
The City is exploring grant opportunities to support residential restoration projects. Informational materials, including a brochure and website resources, will be available soon to guide residents through the program. For questions or to report a property in need of attention, please contact the City’s Building Safety Department – Ordinance Compliance Division at 541-774-2356 or [email protected].
