Tartine is one sexy French word for toast…Yet downtown Medford’s Tartine Brunch Club’s toast is not your average toast. There are six different types of toast that you can mix and match on the menu. On my first visit there, I tried out the smoked salmon as well as the brie pear combinations and both were very delicious. If you are hungry, order more or you guessed it, try out one of their delicious drinks and coffee. I did note to self not to ask for decaf, which they do not carry. Mimosas and bloody marys are good classical brunch beverage choices, which they certainly do have. I enjoyed a signature cocktail, a St.Germain Mosa, made with gin, St Germain, agave nectar, lime, cucumber, mint, and topped with bubbles. This drink had me wondering whether it qualifies as two servings of veggies? I also took note of the lovely wine selection and full bar.
My brunch buddy said they had to try chicken and waffles, “to know what the fuss is all about,” and after trying it out they said it was worth a try for sure – although it’s not their usual jam.
The menu boasts a Mexican influence with huevos rancheros and benitos, and tortilla poblano soup. A diner next to us was enjoying the chilaquiles, the name for breakfast nachos, which looked fresh and tasty. The very nice and helpful waitress offered us the breakfast enchiladas special, which sounded tempting, but I really wanted to commit to my toast.
Here, you don’t have to wonder what a brunch without crêpes looks like – they have two sweet crêpe offerings and three savory ones.
And last but not least, there are salads, to round out the menu. When I went to Tartine for my meal, the house was full and the brunchers all seemed happy. I will definitely go again, and perhaps next time – when I don’t have to go back to work right after.
