Hornecker Cowling moved to Downtown in 2016 from their former location on Murphy Road. They were renting the location on Murphy Road and wanted a change. They wanted to own their own building and wanted to be Downtown, where they were close to the courthouse and could walk to lunch. Their building at 14 N Central was built in 1910 and had in somewhat recent times housed a department store.

Hornecker Cowling is the largest private law firm in Southern Oregon, with roots that go back to 1924. The name comes from two long-time partners Gregory Hornecker and Robert Cowling. The firm  provides individual and corporate clients with a wide range of legal services, including adoptions, domestic relations, bankruptcy and creditor relations, employment, business, estate planning, land use, medical and professional malpractice, and personal injury claims.

In addition to providing legal services, Hornecker Cowling is committed to supporting Southern Oregon in other ways. The firm is a member of DMA and The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County; they sponsor children and families in medical need through a long-standing relationship with Sparrow Clubs; and they have partners involved in a number of community organization, including Rotary, United Way, and the ARC of Jackson County.

Hornecker Cowling has 24 total employees – 13 attorneys and 11 support staff members. Attorneys are Shane Antholz, Mark Bartholomew, John Blackhurst, Charles Bolen, Stefanie Burke, Melisa Button, Jeffrey Foxx, Patrick Huycke, Joseph Kellerman, Michael Mayerle, Leah Samelson, Ryan Vanderhoof, and James Wallen.

John Blackhurst, Managing Partner, said “We are happy to be here and hope things continue to grow. I like what DMA has been doing with their reimagine tours, flower baskets, Christmas lights, safety promotion, and activities.”

“I would like to see more restaurants, more shops, and office spaces filling up, which will, in turn, bring more activity to Downtown Medford,” continued John.
